30 Minutes

Update:

We will be working on the soffit next Sunday, September 14th, and I need 15 guys or more there so we can literally knock it out in 30 minutes. Mike Berry might film it for a YL run on. It will be an Amish Sunday with food and money for everyone. If we can put this soffit up in 30 minutes everyone there will get $20. Although if it takes us 1 hour or a little more you still only get $20. Sorry that is a lot of money when you include free pizza and drinks. Though this still great money for a little over a half hour worth of work.

What I need:
I need several ladders, hammers, and drills. I also need a rifle or colt .45 for the squirrel who will, no doubt, try to chew his way back through the soffit after we put this bad boy up. I have 4 hammers, 3 drills, and two ladders but I need more. Anything you can bring would be greatly appreciated.

Fish Don't Fry in the Kitchen!

Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.

In a little over a week, Emily and I will be placing our beautiful "starter" home on the market for less than the price of a condo. We should be getting 145,000 for our place, but we are more likely to walk away with $135,000. That is $10,000 less than this area is selling for, but we are, as they say in the industry, MOTIVATED SELLERS! We are ready to move closer to work. If you know anyone who is interested we will sell this home to them for $132,500 without a realtor. We will also include a one year warranty on pretty much everything. I will personally gaurantee any concern (within reason) the new owner might have. We have completely turned this place upside down and I'm kind of jealous of the next person who gets to live here. If Em and I weren't thinking about having kids in the next couple of years I would probably talk her out of moving. Oh well.

On the scary stuff, the robbers turned out to be kids who were caught stealing from the neighbor behind us and they have been "handled" so there is no reason for concern anymore. Actually the robbers upgraded my back door from a $250 door to a $1000 door. So Bonus! The neighbors are amazing and they have the most beautiful yards in our area.

On a related note, I need workers to help me put up a soffit. I have three small areas to put up and I need a dozen guys to come over to put it up in one day so Ed can get back to concentrating on his baby's mama. Let me know if you are available this weekend. I'll buy pizza, pop, and beer for the older guys who refuse to work without it. I won't pay for the hospital bill if you break your thumb though. Let me know guys because I really need your help. Thanks.

My Home

Real Estate. That's on my heart right now. "From the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks." I've been talking about it a lot lately. The doctor who thought I was ADD was an idiot. If I'm interested in a subject I get more obsessive than distracted. It's really kind of damaging at times.

So much so that my fears and worries are streaming into dreams. I dream that I am letting the people I work with down with this obsession. I'm not, because I'm not spending too much/any time talking or looking at homes at work, but my dreams say different and the anxiety remains.

Speaking of dreams...my dreams bring a flood of emotions lately. I wake up everyday with a new dream. All of them represent my fears. Even though I don't spend time during the day worrying about life. My dreams say something different. Weird, right?

Anyway, I know we are to dedicate our minds/hearts to learning about, talking to, and looking for Jesus, but I get distracted all the time. I'm human, selfish, and in general lacking knowledge of what God's will is and how to accomplish that. Especially when I feel that I have nothing to offer. Don't get me wrong I know God can and will use me when the time is right, but waiting to hear from God can be boring. So when things seem to be going well I get lost in my selfishness. My current selfish ambition (even though I should do nothing out of selfish ambition) is to buy a bigger home where Em and I can start our family. Our current home is a little cramped. Here is where I start to justify though. Is it wrong to buy a nicer home? Is it wrong to want good materials in this life? No, but how you go about getting those things can be. So I need to step back and start asking questions before I move forward.

Questions:

Will this move hurt anyone?
Will Em and I be able to care for a child/children in this home?
Will I forget about Jesus because my living conditions have become to comfortable or lukewarm? Further, is my relationship with Jesus because I was struggling for so long? Will that or is that changing?
Can this house be used to do God's will based on location, money? Will this place be a sanctuary for God and a sanctuary that leads to continuing marital growth for Em and me? (That's right. You start a sentence with so-and-so and I, but you end it with so-and-so and me. Me is correct here.)
Will this be a place that is welcoming for anyone who wants a place to come and rest? Will this place allow us to have the open door policy we currently enjoy?

I don't know what is right for us at the moment, but I'll continue to seek God with these questions so I make my choice based on His given wisdom and patience.

Wednesday

Wednesday:

If you read my last entry and are still interested in meeting up with us, we will meet every Wednesday at 7:00 for the next few months at different BBQ places throughout the city or until we start hating Pork. We (meaning I) feel that it is important to celebrate our freedom in Christ and what better way than to eat pork while discussing why Pork isn't kosher. Good Stuff. "Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial," so if this starts to effect our health we will probably stop. Anyway I am taking a poll of where to eat next. We will eat at all the BBQ hot spots over the next few weeks. Here are some choices:

Pit to Plate
Big Art's BBQ
Burbank's
City
Jim Dandy's

Which place would you like to hit up this week? Keep in mind that Justin has to drive a long way for a few of these places. We should probably mix it up each week so we all have to drive about the same. Maybe we could hit up City or something in Tri-County this week.

Print out the the book of Acts so you can make notes in it and read the first chapter. We can discuss what we plan to accomplish with the study this week.

New D Group

I think it is about time for me to begin a new Biblical Studies group. My vision for the group is simple. No more reading random books explaining what people think the Bible means. I want to print out individual books of the Bible, with margins, and do a study where we ask the whys, what happened, and where did it happen questions for each individual book. I want to breaking down the Torah to understand what Jesus and his disciples were really teaching people. Too much is overlooked because we weren’t raised in a culture that forced us to memorize the Torah.

One example of something heavily overlooked happens in John 18: 5&6. Judas has just brought an army to betray Jesus and this extraordinary event happens. Jesus knowing the answer already, asks the military leaders “Who do you want?” They said “Jesus of Nazareth.” According to our NIV Jesus answers them “I am he.” Jesus didn’t really answer with “I am he.” The actual words Jesus spoke were “I Am.” He was saying I am apart of the Great I Am. When he said this name, as if it was his own, the soldiers (believed by scholars to be an entire infantry somewhere in the 300 to 500 hundred, maybe even in the thousands range) all fell over backward. He was basically saying, “You aren’t taking me on your authority. I am giving up my life because this is what my Father asked of me to do in order to fix you idiots.”

I find that amazing. He basically told them that He was God’s son (with authority) and they still took him.

Jesus taught people who understood the Torah backward and forward. I feel by not fully understanding the Torah I am probably missing most of what Jesus was teaching. Yes, I get the grace and love part, but I have seen in simple teachings that Jesus really said way more than we can read in his surface statements. I don’t like or want to be ignorant of his entire message anymore.

If you want to work with me on this that would be great. If you are a YL leader I would love for you to join, but this study is going to be one of the only focuses I have and I need people who aren't pulled in a million directions to commit to this. It won't be a lot of work, but it will require set time commitments. I want to do it over food one day a week. I don't care if we do it at public restaurants or not, but food must be apart of the equation. People open up when food is around. Don't ask me how, but it just works. This study is going to be male only for now.

The Best Home Security System Ever!

My New Home Security System

1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work boots.

2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns and Ammo Magazine.

3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines.

4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

Hey Bubba,

Me, Big Jim, Duke, and Slim went for more ammunition. Back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls - they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside.
